We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Reading. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require additional support to manage their emotions, engage in learning, and develop the skills needed for future success.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students build confidence, improve behaviour, and achieve positive educational outcomes within a supportive and nurturing environment.
The Role As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
Support students with social, emotional and mental health needs both in and outside of the classroom.
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and learning activities.
Support students in managing emotions, behaviour and social interactions.
Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention plans.
Encourage participation, independence and personal development.
Promote a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, parents and external professionals to support individual student needs.About You We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or care setting.
Is calm, patient and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
Possesses strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Demonstrates empathy, understanding and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Has a positive and proactive approach to behaviour management.Desirable Experience
SEMH, SEND or behavioural support experience.
Team Teach, CPI or other de-escalation training.
Experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD, trauma or attachment difficulties.
Youth work, mentoring, coaching or care experience.What We Offer
