SEMH Teaching Assistant – Southampton – September Start Location: Southampton Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (with potential to become permanent) Salary: £85 – £100 per day (depending on experience) A dedicated SEN school in Southampton is looking for a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a long-term opportunity to work in a supportive, specialist setting with small class sizes of around 5–7 students, providing the extra attention and guidance they need to thrive. This school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering a structured and nurturing environment to help them access education in a way that suits their individual needs. As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping students build confidence, self-regulation skills, and a more positive approach to learning. Your Role Will Include: Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs Assisting the class teacher in delivering a differentiated curriculum Supporting students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff Encouraging independence and supporting personal development Maintaining a calm and consistent presence throughout the day What We’re Looking For: Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is highly desirable A calm, empathetic and patient approach Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a close-knit team A commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning Reliability, consistency and a proactive attitude About the School: This is a well-regarded specialist provision with a strong ethos of care, respect and personalised learning.
