SEMH Teaching Assistant
Every child has a story. Could you help rewrite it?
In a busy primary classroom, a quiet moment of connection can change everything. A small act of patience, a carefully chosen word, a consistent presence - these are the things that help children with social, emotional and mental health needs feel seen, safe, and ready to learn in our schools across Chester and Ellesmere Port.
We're searching for someone who understands that education is about more than lessons and literacy. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll become a steady, trusted figure in a child's school life - helping them navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and build the skills they need for the future.
What You'll Be Doing
Your days will be varied, purposeful, and rewarding. You will:
Work closely with children who experience SEMH challenges, supporting them 1:1 and in small groups.
Create and maintain an environment where pupils feel valued, listened to, and able to express themselves.
Use emotional regulation techniques and behaviour support strategies to guide children through difficult moments.
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure support is tailored and effective.
Celebrate small steps forward - because in this role, they mean everything. The Person We're Looking For
This isn't a role for someone who just wants a job. It's for someone who believes that every child deserves a champion. You might already have experience supporting children with additional needs, or perhaps you've worked in care, youth work, or mental health support - what matters most is your empathy, patience, and resilience.
We'd love to hear from you if you:
Stay calm under pressure and approach challenges with curiosity, not judgment.
Are confident building relationships and gaining trust.
Can adapt your approach to meet individual needs and celebrate individual strengths.
Are willing to learn and grow - training and ongoing support will be provided. Why This Role Matters
This is more than classroom support - it's a chance to make a lasting difference. You'll be part of a passionate, supportive team that values creativity, emotional intelligence, and genuine care for children's wellbeing. In return, you'll receive training, regular feedback, and opportunities to grow your career in the SEND and education sector.
If this sounds like the meaningful next step you're looking for, we'd love to hear your story.
