The SEN English Teacher Job
Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEN English Teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of children? We are seeking an SEN English Teacher for a vibrant school with students aged 11-19 in Lambeth specialising in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). You will specifically be working with students in KS3/4 working with a specialised curriculum to enhance the students literacy skills.
In this rewarding SEN English Teacher role, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment tailored to the unique needs of each student. Your expertise as a English Teacher will help develop individualised learning plans that focus on and develop the students love of reading, comprehension and literacy skills through a modern and differentiated curriculum.
The School
The successful English Teacher applicant would be joining a large and well established SEN school in Lambeth for children with mild learning difficulties. This SEN school offers provision for pupils from 4-19 years, who have a diagnosis of ASD and other complex learning difficulties, all being funded by a personalised EHCP. The school provides a range of unique enabling environments, both indoor and outdoor, which are used to maximise learning opportunities and meet pupil's specific needs and allows the students to gain independence and life skills. This school boasts a supportive environment and encourages students to gain as many life skills as possible with a higher understanding of literacy.
SEN English Teacher Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement personalised lesson plans for English lessons that are differentiated for pathways 1-3 for the students
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting approaches as the secondary teacher in the classroom.
- Engage with parents and caregivers to support student development at home and in school.
- Work with and lead a support team within the classroom
SEN English Teacher Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of ASD
- Willingness to work with students who have SLD and other communication issues
- Experience working in a special needs education setting is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
