Job Description

Position: Maths Teacher (SEN) Location: Southampton Start Date: ASAP Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term until July 2026 Pay Range: £165 – £245 per day (depending on experience) Working Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Overview A specialist SEN school in Southampton is seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join their team as soon as possible. This full-time role involves teaching small groups of secondary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour, in a highly supportive and nurturing environment. You will be delivering engaging and differentiated Maths lessons up to GCSE level, with class sizes typically ranging from 4 to 5 students, supported by a skilled Teaching Assistant. The position runs until July 2026, with the potential for the role to continue beyond this period for the right candidate. Responsibilities Plan and deliver Maths lessons that are engaging, differentiated, and tailored to meet the needs of learners with SEMH and behavioural challenges. Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports both academic and emotional development. Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team to provide consistent support and interventions. Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and provide regular feedback to pupils and staff. Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to manage behaviour effectively and encourage positive relationships. Contribute to the wider school community and participate in meetings, reviews, and CPD opportunities. About the School This is a specialist SEN school in Southampton that caters for students aged 11 to 16 with SEMH and associated behavioural or learning needs. The school provides a supportive, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally. Requirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) – applications from unqualified teachers or instructors with strong SEN experience will also be considered. Experience teaching Maths at KS3 and KS4 level. Experience or interest in working with students with SEMH and challenging behaviour. Excellent behaviour management and communication skills. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with a genuine desire to support students’ progress and wellbeing. What’s on Offer Competitive daily rate of £165 – £245, dependent on experience. Small class sizes (typically 4–5 students) with Teaching Assistant support. Full-time role until July 2026, with potential for extension or permanency.
