We are currently seeking caring, patient, and committed Teaching Assistants to join a special educational needs school in North Lincolnshire. Here, you will play a vital role in helping children with complex needs overcome barriers to learning and thrive in a nurturing, structured environment.
What the Role Involves
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely alongside teachers and other professionals to support children with Autism and learning disabilities, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored support to individual pupils or small groups to enhance their learning and engagement.
Assisting with implementing personalised learning and behaviour plans, including EHCP targets.
Supporting communication and social development using specialised strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and visual aids.
Helping children manage sensory needs and emotional regulation in the classroom.
Encouraging independence and positive behaviour through consistent, compassionate support.
Preparing learning resources and adapting classroom materials to meet specific needs.
Supporting the delivery of therapeutic or intervention programmes as directed by specialists or teachers.
Observing and recording pupil progress and behaviours, contributing to review meetings and planning.
Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, parents, and other professionals to provide holistic support.
Promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in line with safeguarding policies.
Who We're Looking For
We want Teaching Assistants who are:
Patient, empathetic, and understanding of the unique challenges faced by children with Autism and learning disabilities.
Experienced (or enthusiastic to learn) working with children who have SEND, particularly Autism and complex learning needs.
Confident using communication support tools such as PECS or Makaton (training can be provided if needed).
Able to remain calm and positive when supporting children with challenging behaviours.
Excellent team players with strong communication skills.
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all times.
Flexible and adaptable to meet the varied needs of children and school demands.
Desirable
Previous experience in a special school or specialist provision.
Training in behaviour management approaches such as Team Teach.
Awareness of sensory processing issues and related support strategies.
Experience supporting children with EHCPs.
