Job Description

Job Title: Support Worker - SEN School (High-Functioning Children) Location: Cambridge Contract Type: Full time, part time Job Purpose: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team in a specialist SEN school catering for high-functioning children, typically with autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, or other neurodiverse profiles. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils to achieve their full potential, both academically and socially, within a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities: *Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with high-functioning SEN needs. *Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating in school activities. *Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, therapists, and other professionals to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies. *Assist pupils with developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence. *Promote positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy. *Support pupils during transitions throughout the school day, including break and lunch times. *Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and incidents, and contribute to review meetings where appropriate. *Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and the wider school team. *Attend relevant training and engage in continuous professional development. Person Specification: Essential: *Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEN or neurodiverse conditions. *Understanding of autism and other high-functioning learning needs. *Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. *Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust and rapport with young people. *Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour constructively. Desirable: *Relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, NVQ, or equivalent). *Previous experience in a school or educational setting. *Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.
