We are seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a Secondary SEN school, ready for the new academic year in September.
About the Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in empowering secondary school students with diverse special educational needs to access their education and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to students in various subjects and activities.
Assist the class teacher in preparing and delivering engaging lessons, adapting materials as necessary to meet individual student needs.
Support students with their social, emotional, and communication development, fostering independence and confidence.
Help to maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment that promotes learning and well-being.
Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies as directed by the class teacher or SENCO.
Collaborate effectively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents, and external specialists.
Monitor and record student progress, providing valuable feedback to support ongoing assessments.
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people, preferably within a school or educational setting.
A patient, caring, and empathetic nature, with a genuine desire to support students with SEN.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive rapport with students, staff, and parents.
The ability to work effectively and proactively as part of a team.
Resilience and adaptability to respond to varying student needs and situations.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Desirable:
Previous experience working with secondary-aged students with a range of special educational needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties, SEMH).
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, youth work qualification).
Training in behaviour management techniques (e.g., Team Teach).
