Job Description

Special Needs Teachers – September Start (Primary KS2 & Year 7 Transition) Location: New Forest Area, across multiple sites | Full-Time | Paid to Scale (Based on Experience) A specialist provision in the New Forest area is seeking committed, resilient and experienced teachers to join their dedicated team in September. These full-time roles are available across a couple of well-established sites, supporting children with complex needs in both primary (Key Stage 2) and lower secondary (Year 7 transition) settings. The children supported across these sites have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and many also present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some pupils may exhibit behaviour that challenges, requiring teachers with patience, adaptability and strong classroom management skills. Successful candidates will be those who can build trust and consistency with pupils, offer structured and nurturing learning environments, and implement strategies that support positive behaviour and emotional regulation. Each site has slightly different needs: One site focuses primarily on upper primary pupils, helping them prepare for the transition to secondary through structured learning and emotional development. The other site supports Year 7 students who may be new to specialist settings, requiring teachers to help with academic catch-up, social integration, and emotional resilience. The school values staff who are reflective, proactive and committed to inclusive education. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with a wider team of teaching assistants, therapists, and pastoral staff to support each pupil’s individual needs. Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Experience working with pupils with ASC and/or SEMH Strong behaviour management strategies A full-time commitment and readiness to be a consistent adult in pupils’ lives Desirable: Experience in specialist or alternative provisions Understanding of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches Confidence in adapting the curriculum to meet a range of learning needs This is a rewarding opportunity for teachers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. In return, the school offers a supportive working environment, access to ongoing professional development, and the chance to be part of a strong, forward-thinking team.
