Job Description
Long-Term SEN Teaching Assistant – Complex Needs & Autism
Based in Handsworth | £90–£100 per day | 9am–3pm | Long-Term Position
We are currently supporting a specialist school in Handsworth that caters for children and young people with complex needs, including Autism, learning difficulties, and challenging behaviour. The school provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where every pupil is supported in developing socially, emotionally, and academically.
They are now looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a long-term role, working Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm. This role is ideal for someone with strong SEN experience who is calm, resilient and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
The role will involve:
* Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including Autism, sensory processing difficulties, and challenging behaviours
* Working across different age groups (EYFS to Post-16), depending on the needs of the school
* Providing 1:1 and small group support in both learning and behavioural contexts
* Assisting with personal care, mobility and hygiene routines
* Supporting students to develop independence, life skills and emotional regulation
* Working closely with class teachers, therapists, and wider support staff
The ideal candidate will:
* Have previous experience working with children or young adults with SEN
* Be confident in supporting behaviour that may be challenging
* Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
* Be adaptable and open to working with different age groups
* Be comfortable providing personal care where required
* Have a calm, patient and nurturing approach
