Specialist Teaching Assistant (TA) - Autism & SEN Focus | North Birmingham Primary School Are you a Highly Skilled SEN Teaching Assistant Ready to Drive Progress for Pupils with Autism? The Role: Targeted Support & Specialist Practice The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and the SENDCO to implement bespoke provision plans, ensuring the educational, social, and emotional needs of the pupils are met comprehensively. Core Responsibilities & Impact: Bespoke Intervention: Deliver targeted, one-to-one and small group interventions, ensuring alignment with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning goals. Specialist Strategies: Confidently employ a range of evidence-based strategies to support pupils with ASC, including the use of TEACCH principles, visual timetables, social stories, and effective sensory regulation activities. Behaviour & Wellbeing: Implement and monitor effective positive behaviour management strategies, fostering a calm and predictable learning environment to support emotional regulation and engagement. Curriculum Access: Differentiate and adapt learning materials across the Primary Curriculum (including EYFS) to ensure pupils with SEN can access and make meaningful progress alongside their peers. Professional Collaboration: Maintain clear and accurate progress records, collaborating closely with the SENDCO, external therapists, and parents/carers to ensure a holistic approach to pupil development. Essential Specialist Requirements: To be considered for this specialist role, you must demonstrate proven experience and capability in the following areas: SEN Experience: Significant, recent experience working directly with children with Special Educational Needs, specifically Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Strategy Expertise: Demonstrated ability to implement and adapt a range of specialist strategies (e.g., visual supports, sensory integration techniques) to foster independence and manage challenging behaviour effectively. Curriculum Knowledge: Good working knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and EYFS framework, with practical skills in differentiating tasks for SEN learners. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong, empathetic relationships with pupils, parents, and professional team members.
