Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) - Wandsworth 🧠 Location: Wandsworth, South West London; Pay: £95-£115 per day; Contract: Fixed-term contract with strong potential for permanent employment; Start Date: January 2026; Hours: 08:30 - 16:30, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only); Commutable From: Balham, Clapham, Putney, Tooting, Earlsfield, Battersea. Long Term Futures is seeking an empathetic and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to provide vital one-to-one support within an inclusive and welcoming primary school environment in Wandsworth. We specialise in matching dedicated support staff with long-term opportunities where they can genuinely transform the educational journey of individual pupils. This specific role involves supporting a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) up to Key Stage 2 (KS2). Our focus is on securing stable placements that offer security and a frequent path toward conversion into a permanent school contract. To streamline the hiring process, we commonly arrange paid school experience days instead of traditional interviews. This allows both you and the school to ensure the placement is an excellent mutual fit before committing. The Focus of the Role Provide targeted, dedicated 1:1 support for a specific pupil, assisting their access to the curriculum and integration into the classroom. Implement tailored support plans (e.g., EHCPs), adapting resources and activities to meet the pupil's individual needs. Promote the pupil's independence, self-esteem, and social development across various age groups, from EYFS to KS2. Collaborate closely with the SENCo and Class Teachers to monitor progress and contribute to review meetings. Required Skills and Experience Prior experience in a Teaching Assistant role or a position supporting children with SEN is essential. Proven understanding and experience of working on a 1:1 basis with pupils requiring additional support. A resilient, compassionate, and motivational approach to working with children who have complex needs. Exceptional relationship-building skills for working with the pupil, staff, and parents. Knowledge of strategies for supporting pupils with specific needs (e.g., Autism, Speech and Language difficulties) is highly desirable. What We Offer Consistent, reliable employment with a clear, defined route to a permanent contract. Dedicated, personal career guidance from a consultant specialising in SEN placements. Free access to relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, such as PECS, Makaton, or behaviour management training. The chance for a paid experience day to bypass the pressure of a formal interview. How to Secure Your New Role Submit your current and up-to-date CV. Have an introductory, friendly discussion with Jack at Long Term Futures. Successfully complete essential compliance checks (Right to Work, Enhanced DBS, and professional references). Participate in a brief video screening regarding essential safeguarding policies. Attend an experience day or interview at the school. Begin your rewarding new position! If this opportunity is of interest, or if you would like to discuss other education vacancies in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs, please contact Jack at Long Term Futures without delay. Important Note: To be eligible for a school experience day, candidates must possess a current, valid Enhanced DBS certificate and be able to supply two recent professional references
