About the setting
We are recruiting on behalf of a small nurturing primary academy that places relationships, inclusion and emotional wellbeing at the heart of everything it does. The setting works closely with children who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing structured support that helps pupils re‑engage with learning, develop emotional regulation skills and build positive relationships. The role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be a consistent and reassuring presence for pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils to feel safe, calm and ready to learn.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that behaviour is a form of communication and who can respond with empathy, structure and patience.
Key responsibilities
Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Supporting emotional regulation, self‑esteem and positive behaviour for learning
Implementing personalised strategies in line with individual support plans
Helping to maintain a predictable, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
Working collaboratively with staff to ensure pupils feel supported throughout the school day
Encouraging positive relationships, resilience and engagement in learning
We’re looking for someone who…
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs
Is calm, compassionate and able to build strong, trusting relationships
Understands the importance of consistency, routine and emotional safety
Can use restorative, trauma‑informed or nurturing approaches
Works well as part of a supportive, reflective team
Has a background in education, care, youth work or similar (desirable, not essential)
