SEN Teaching Assistant - Oxford We are seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist school in Oxford, helping children and young people with special educational needs reach their full potential. You will work as part of a dedicated team, helping pupils to access learning, develop their confidence and independence, and thrive within a structured and nurturing environment. Details Location: Oxford Monday to Friday 08:30 - 15:30 From £110 per day Temporary position, with potential for longer-term/permanent opportunities About the role You will support children and young people with a range of special educational needs, providing 1:1, small-group and whole-class support to help them engage with their learning and achieve their individual goals. Depending on the needs of the pupils, you may support children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), cognition and learning needs, communication difficulties and behavioural or emotional needs. Your role will involve helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build positive relationships and develop greater confidence and independence. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure each pupil receives consistent, individualised support. Your responsibilities will include: Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils. Supporting children to access classroom learning and activities. Helping pupils develop their confidence, communication and independence. Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. Supporting individual learning and behaviour plans. Creating a calm, safe and structured learning environment. Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions, break times and activities. Where required, assisting with personal care and pupils' wider wellbeing. Working closely with teachers and other professionals. Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and confidentiality. We welcome applicants with experience in: Care work Residential support Healthcare or nursing Mental health support Youth work Children's services SEN or disability support Behavioural support Security Military Police Prison or probation services Sports coaching Other challenging or high-responsibility environmentsPrevious experience working in a school is advantageous but is not essential. If you have experience working with vulnerable people, managing challenging situations, remaining calm under pressure or supporting individuals with complex needs, your skills could transfer extremely well into this role. You'll need: A calm, patient and resilient approach. The ability to remain composed in challenging situations. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A genuine passion for supporting children and young people. The ability to build positive and professional relationships. A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of SEND.
