SEN Teaching Assistant
At Teach Now, we’re looking for an outstanding SEN Teaching Assistant who specialises in supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time opportunity in a warm, inclusive Barnet primary school is perfect for someone who believes in the power of patience, empathy, and emotional resilience.
The role
You’ll work with children in KS1 and KS2, some of whom have experienced trauma, anxiety, attachment disorders or emotional dysregulation. Your day-to-day will involve:
• One-to-one and small group interventions
• De-escalating and managing emotional outbursts calmly and safely
• Supporting academic work while building emotional strength and confidence
• Collaborating with the SENCO, therapists, and class teachers
The school
• A forward-thinking primary in Barnet, renowned for its inclusive ethos and whole-child approach
• A strong pastoral support network with embedded mental health provision
• Access to dedicated intervention rooms, calm zones, and outdoor learning spaces
• Staff wellbeing is taken seriously here—expect a team that looks after each other, too
What you’ll bring
• Experience working with children with SEMH or related behavioural needs
• Training in or familiarity with emotion coaching, de-escalation strategies, or trauma-informed practice
• Resilience, compassion, and a calm, grounded presence
• A strong belief that relationships are the key to transformation
This isn’t just a job—it’s a mission. If you're ready to help young people feel safe, heard, and supported, we want to hear from you.
