The SEN Teaching Assistant Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the academic and emotional development of students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH challenges.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing one-on-one and small group support tailored to individual needs
• Adapting classroom activities to align with individual learning plans
• Assisting pupils in both mainstream and specialist classroom settings
• Collaborating with SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals
• Encouraging independence, building confidence, and supporting a love of learning
We’re Looking For
• Experience working with children or young people with SEN (in or out of school)
• A patient, calm, and empathetic approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
• A desire to grow through ongoing professional development
Desirable (but not essential):
• Knowledge of EHCPs, ASD strategies, or Team Teach
• A background in psychology, youth work, or health & social care
