SEN Teaching Assistant
Support pupils with SEMH needs in a nurturing North London primary school
Are you a compassionate educator who believes every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and empowered to succeed? An inspiring and inclusive primary school in Colindale, North London, is seeking a dedicated SEN teaching assistant with a specialism in social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs to join its passionate team from September 2025. This is an opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of pupils who need emotional understanding as much as academic support.
About the role
In this rewarding position, you will work with pupils across Key Stage 1 and 2, supporting those who struggle with anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, and behaviour rooted in emotional challenges. You’ll build trusted relationships, promote emotional literacy, and support access to learning in both 1:1 and group settings. Your ability to create a calm, structured, and nurturing space will be vital in helping children grow in confidence and resilience.
Why you’ll love this role
• Purpose-driven work – make a tangible impact by being the trusted adult some children desperately need
• Holistic school approach – join a school that places mental wellbeing at the heart of its ethos, with strong pastoral care and therapeutic support embedded into the school day
• Professional growth – benefit from ongoing CPD in SEMH strategies, mental health first aid, and trauma-informed approaches
• Community and diversity – be part of a vibrant school community that celebrates diversity, encourages creativity, and supports one another
What we’re looking for
• Experience supporting children with SEMH needs or similar backgrounds
• A calm, empathetic and emotionally intelligent approach
• Confidence in managing emotional outbursts or disengagement with sensitivity
• Strong communication skills and a team-player mindset
• Training in mental health or emotional support is highly desirable
