SEN Teaching Assistant About the role Are you passionate about supporting young children as they begin their learning journey? Do you have a caring, proactive approach and the ability to nurture children with emerging special educational needs (SEN)? If so, we would love to hear from you. A vibrant and inclusive primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated SEN teaching assistant to join their Reception team from September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent position working in the heart of a welcoming school community that values early intervention, child-led learning, and professional development. Key responsibilities You will provide 1:1 and small group support to Reception pupils showing early signs of additional needs. While formal diagnoses may not yet be in place, the school is preparing thoughtfully and proactively for a diverse range of potential learning and emotional needs. Your responsibilities will include: • Supporting the transition to structured learning while maintaining elements of play-based exploration • Helping deliver high-quality phonics sessions using schemes such as Read Write Inc. or Little Wandle • Encouraging emotional regulation, social interaction, and consistent routines • Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to tailor support strategies based on ongoing observations What we’re looking for • Recent experience in an Early Years or Nursery setting • Confidence and calmness when working with children whose SEN needs are not yet fully understood • A nurturing, intuitive approach, paired with a keen understanding of routine and consistency • Enthusiasm for making a real difference during this crucial phase of development Join a school where your initiative and compassion will be celebrated every day.
