Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and forward-thinking school community in Portsmouth. This is a fulfilling opportunity to support students with additional needs as they grow in confidence, independence, and academic success. About the School: This vibrant secondary school, part of a well-regarded multi-academy trust, is located in the heart of Portsmouth. The school is driven by a clear vision: to inspire learners to flourish academically and personally through high expectations, strong relationships, and a commitment to excellence. Students are empowered to become confident, respectful, and ambitious individuals. With a strong culture of inclusion, the school works hard to remove barriers and provide a nurturing environment where every child feels seen, supported, and valued. What We’re Looking For: A patient, proactive, and resilient individual with a genuine interest in Special Educational Needs (SEN). Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students. Previous experience with SEN students is desirable, but a caring attitude and willingness to learn are just as important. University students with relevant aspirations are also encouraged to apply. An understanding of a range of SEN needs, including Autism and SEMH, is highly valued. Role Highlights: Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN. Help deliver tailored interventions and classroom strategies based on individual learning plans. Support students in developing social, emotional, and behavioural skills. Collaborate closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and wider pastoral teams. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe and encouraged. The Ideal Candidate Will Be: Empathetic, encouraging, and adaptable. Passionate about inclusive education and supporting all learners to succeed. Comfortable working with students who have Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs. DBS checked and registered on the update service (or willing to apply). Aware of safeguarding and child protection practices. If you’re a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant ready to empower students and support them on their educational journey, we’d love to hear from you. Join a school in Portsmouth that’s committed to helping every learner thrive—no exceptions. To apply or find out more, please click ‘Apply Now’ and send in your updated CV.
