Job Title: Behaviour Mentor - Primary School (Behaviour Support Base)
Location: Deptford, South East London
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £110-£130 per day (depending on experience)
Veritas Education are working on behalf of a mainstream primary school in Deptford to recruit a confident, experienced Behaviour Mentor to join their dedicated team. The successful candidate will work within the school's internal behaviour classroom, supporting pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
This is a rewarding and vital role where your support will make a significant difference in the lives of children who require tailored guidance and firm, consistent boundaries.
Key Responsibilities:
Work 1:1 and in small groups with children displaying challenging behaviour and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Support staff with the safe management of incidents, including breaking up physical altercations if necessary
De-escalate behaviour using recognised positive handling techniques
Build positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils
Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to ensure pupil progress and safetyEssential Requirements:
Positive Handling / Team Teach training (or equivalent restraint training) - essential
Proven experience working with primary or secondary-aged children with SEMH, SEN or complex behavioural needs
Willingness and ability to intervene physically when necessary to ensure the safety of pupils and staff
A calm, non-judgemental approach and strong behaviour management skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply through Veritas)Desirable:
Experience working within a behaviour unit, PRU or alternative provision
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Child Psychology, Youth Work, Behaviour Support)This is a full-time role during school hours (Mon-Fri, term time), with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
