We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child with Autism at a welcoming Primary school in Tower Hamlets. This full-time position begins in September and offers a rewarding opportunity to work in a one-to-one capacity within a mainstream classroom setting.
This role runs Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 3:30pm, and is ideal for someone with a calm, patient, and proactive approach. The successful applicant will be supporting a non-verbal child with Autism who requires consistent communication strategies, emotional regulation support, and structured routine.
We are looking for individuals who have personal or professional experience working with students with SEN, particularly those with a diagnosis of Autism and non-verbal communication needs. The school is inclusive, supportive, and has strong links with external professionals such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.
Applicants must have proven experience with SEND, Autism, and behaviour management in either a home or educational environment.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal child with Autism, ensuring access to learning and inclusion in classroom activities
*
Use visual aids, PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods to support expressive and receptive communication
*
Follow and contribute to individual behaviour support and communication plans
*
Implement consistent routines and use structured transitions to reduce anxiety and promote emotional regulation
*
Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt lesson content and resources to meet the child’s specific learning needs
*
Work alongside therapists and specialists to reinforce communication and social development strategies
*
Monitor and document the child’s progress daily, reporting back to the class teacher and SEN team
*
Promote a calm, nurturing environment that encourages interaction and engagement in both academic and social activities
*
Supervise and support the child during playtime, lunch, and outdoor learning sessions
*
Assist with personal care if required, maintaining dignity and fostering independence
*
Maintain safeguarding standards and adhere to school policies at all times
*
Participate in team meetings and training sessions, especially those focused on Autism, communication strategies, and SEN Teaching Assistant best practices
*
Contribute to a collaborative classroom environment and uphold the inclusive ethos of the Primary school
*
Be a consistent and positive presence for the child, working in partnership with teachers, families, and external agencie
