Job Description

Job Purpose To support students with special educational needs (SEN) in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential. The SEN Teaching Assistant works closely with teachers and the SENCO to deliver tailored support that promotes inclusion, independence, and progress. Key Responsibilities * Provide in-class support to students with a range of SEN, including learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and social/emotional needs. * Implement individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour plans, and support strategies under the guidance of the SENCO and teaching staff. * Adapt learning materials and resources to meet individual student needs. * Support students with personal care or mobility needs where appropriate. * Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. * Assist with the monitoring, recording, and reporting of student progress. * Work with small groups or individual students to deliver targeted interventions. * Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies as directed by the SENCO. * Contribute to reviews of student progress and participate in relevant meetings and training. * Promote positive relationships, self-esteem, and independence in students. Person Specification Essential: * Experience of working with children or young people, ideally those with SEN. * Good understanding of how to support learning and inclusion in a classroom. * Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. * Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCO. * Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. Desirable: * A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN specialism, or equivalent). * Knowledge of specific SEN conditions (e.g., autism spectrum, ADHD, dyslexia). * Experience delivering interventions or supporting students with complex needs. Working Hours Typically term-time only, with hours aligning to the school day (exact hours negotiable). Flexibility may be required to support before/after-school provision or extracurricular activities
