Job Description

SEN Trainee Tutor Location: East Grinstead, Sussex Annual salary: £23,200 Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:45 - 5:00pm (Term time only) The School: A small independent day school for pupils with autism. They provide specialised teaching for Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form pupils, aged 4 to 19, who have an autistic diagnosis. The classes are of mixed ages and abilities, and each class is overseen by a Class Leader, with the assistance of a Lead Tutor. Each pupil is allocated a 'key worker', who is responsible for the day to-day organisation of his or her program. Qualified behaviour analysts oversee individual programmes. In addition to receiving individualised teaching/support, pupils receive daily, small group teaching, delivered by our teachers, therapists and class staff. Key Duties: Providing direct teaching and support to our pupils following their own individual targets Prepare your resources and plan for your sessions so you can deliver a smooth lesson focusing on communication and life skills using Applied Behavioural Analysis. Support pupils when attending group sessions, participating in external activities such as swimming, horse riding or trampolining Assisting in snack and lunch duties including supporting healthy food choices Provide behavioural management support to help reduce behaviours Track and log pupil progress throughout the day collaborating with the team if targets need to be adjusted. Attend after school training and complete relevant paperworkPlease note that duties will vary and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of the School when required. Essential Criteria: Some experience in the care and/or education of children Basic understanding of child development Some experience of working with people with a range of special needs. Some experience of planning, monitoring and assessment of pupils' work; some experience of working in an educational setting and other qualifications/knowledge to support school and SEND setting, such as First Aid, Picture Exchange Communication (PECS), positive behaviour management (Team Teach) is desirable. GCSE Maths and English Language qu alification minimum Grade 4/C (or equivalent, such as functional skills) Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
