Outreach Tutor (SEN Functional Skills - English & Maths)
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Prospero Teaching is looking for a dedicated Outreach Tutor to deliver bespoke Functional Skills English and Maths sessions to learners with SEN (Special Educational Needs) who are currently not attending mainstream education.
This is a 1:1, outreach-based role, delivering Entry Level 3 to Level 3 English and Maths to young people in Barking and Dagenham. Learners may be based at home, in community settings, or alternative provisions. Many have gaps in their education and may present with low confidence and engagement, often due to extended periods out of school.
You'll be responsible for planning and delivering tailored lessons that support academic progression and build learner confidence. This role is ideal for an experienced Functional Skills tutor or qualified teacher who thrives in a more personalised, flexible teaching environment outside the traditional classroom.
Prospero Teaching will support you with ongoing guidance and progression monitoring to ensure each student makes meaningful progress.
CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS
Location: Barking and Dagenham (various outreach locations)
Position: Outreach Tutor - Functional Skills English & Maths
Type of Work: 1:1 tutoring (outreach/home/community settings)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration / Likely Duration: Ongoing (based on individual learner needs)
Contract Type: Temporary
Hours: 10 to 15 hours per week (sessions usually 1-3 hours per student)
Rate of Pay: From £25 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Flexible Schedule: Sessions arranged based on your availability
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Recognised teaching or tutoring qualification (e.g., QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent)
Experience teaching Functional Skills English and Maths (Entry Level 3 to Level 3)
SEN experience is highly desirable
Minimum 6 months experience teaching in a UK setting
Up-to-date Safeguarding Training (can be provided if needed)
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an Enhanced Child DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for a new one)
Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
