A respected secondary school in Taunton is seeking a driven and compassionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their SEND department from September 2025. This is a strategic leadership position integral to ensuring that pupils with additional needs receive excellent support across academic, social, and emotional domains—without becoming an Assistant Head role.
Role Overview

Develop and lead strategic direction for SEND provision, including EHCP compliance and effective deployment of specialists
*
Line-manage the team of teaching assistants and SEND staff, ensuring high-quality training and deployment
*
Work closely with SLT, teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to create inclusive practices that meet student needs
*
Monitor SEND student attainment and progress, using data to inform plans and report outcomes to governors and parents
*
Oversee budget decisions related to SEND provisions, equipment, and staff deployment
Candidate Profile
*
Qualified SENCO with statutory accreditation or equivalent experience in secondary provision
*
Significant SEND leadership experience, strong knowledge of current SEND legislation and best practices
*
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence change and collaborate effectively with wider teams
*
Organised, resilient, and committed to championing inclusive education
