Our client is looking to recruit an outstanding SENCO to join their team based at HMYOI Werrington, in Staffordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and assuring the Special Educational Needs provision within Education. They will lead a team of Learning Support Practitioners to support learners with SEND needs across a variety of subjects. This is an opportunity to make a significant difference to the children at HMYOI Werrington. They must be knowledgeable of, and committed to, promoting inclusive practice, driving improvement and have a proven track of improving SEND outcomes. Key Responsibilities: * Oversee the implementation of the Special Educational Needs Policy for Education at HMYOI Werrington. * Maintain an accurate and up to date SEND register. * Manage and monitor the SEND caseload of learners and ensure SEND learner oversight is distributed amongst the Learning Support Practitioners. * Lead on the quality assurance of the SEND provision including quality of screening documentation, support plans and adaptive teaching methods tutors use in the classroom or workshop environment. * Maintain an excellent understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, Graduated Approach and Waves of Intervention. * Provide guidance for staff on these key areas. * Lead on and conduct Education, Health, and Care Plan annual monitoring reviews in line with Local Authority guidance and input. * Lead the team of Learning Support Practitioners to deliver inspirational support to learners with SEND needs. * Co-ordinate timetabling of SEND Learning Support Practitioner support. * Conduct observations of Learning Support Practitioners. * Coordinate provision that meets the SEND learner’s needs and monitor its effectiveness and impact. * Assess the SEND needs of the learners and provide recommendations for their support to tutors. * Devise and implement a CPD plan for Education staff in order to improve their ability to support SEND learners. * Keep up to date with national SEND policies and disseminate to colleagues. * Create contractual SEND reports and take part in multi-agency reviews as required. * Work with Local Authorities to ensure EHCPs are maintained. * To lead on the processing of exam access arrangements requests include conducting psychometric testing as and when required. Person Specification: Essential: * The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher (QTS or QTLS) * To hold or be willing to work towards a nationally recognised SENCO qualification such as the NPQ SENCO within an agreed timescale * Previous Regional inclusion/SENCo experience. * To be passionate and relentless about improving the learning experience for learners with SEND. * Knowledge of managing effective SEND support and tailoring support methods and interventions to suit the need of the learner cohort. * SEND Code of Practice and its practical application including the Graduated Approach and annual review EHCP cycle. * Knowledge of behaviour management techniques for groups and individuals. * Knowledge of the JCQ guidelines and publication access arrangements. * Experience Significant experience within the field of Special Educational and Disabilities in adults. * Experience of delivering SEND screening and supporting learners. * Experience of advising staff on SEND support and strategies and delivering training to staff. * Experience of assessing and ensuring the implementation of exam arrangements in an educational setting.
