SENCO/Safeguarding Lead Location: North Birmingham Contract: Full-Time Start Date: Sept 2025 Start About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and passionate SENCO/Safeguarding Lead to join our dedicated team in a full-time permanent position. Based at our client school in the North Birmingham area, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils. Key Responsibilities: SENCO Responsibilities: Lead and manage the school's SEN provision, ensuring that students with SEN receive the appropriate support and interventions. Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students with additional needs. Conduct assessments to identify SEN and monitor the progress of students, ensuring that they are achieving their potential. Provide training and guidance to staff on best practices for supporting students with SEN. Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure holistic support for students with SEN. Safeguarding Lead Responsibilities: Oversee the school's safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice. Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supporting the identification and management of safeguarding concerns. Provide advice and support to staff on safeguarding matters, including child protection, early help, and the appropriate response to disclosures. Manage and track referrals to external agencies and ensure timely follow-up and actions. Conduct safeguarding audits and contribute to the development and review of the school’s safeguarding policies. Leadership & Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and pastoral teams to create a supportive and inclusive school environment. Contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives, ensuring that SEN and safeguarding remain key priorities. Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings to support the needs of students with complex and/or safeguarding concerns. Foster a culture of safeguarding awareness and inclusivity throughout the school community. Skills & Experience Required: Qualified SENCO with a relevant SENCO qualification (or working towards it) and substantial experience working with students with a range of special educational needs. Experience in Safeguarding as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or equivalent role. A deep understanding of safeguarding legislation, child protection policies, and best practices in supporting vulnerable children. Strong knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and experience in managing SEN provision. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, external agencies, and students. Experience in providing staff training and professional development in both SEN and safeguarding areas. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.
