Job Description

SEND Academic Tutor - Yeovil, Somerset (Alternative Provision & EOTAS) Face-to-Face | Flexible, Part-Time Opportunities | September Start Quantum Scholars is proud to be an approved provider on Somerset Council's Alternative Provision Framework, working closely with the local authority to support children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education. We are currently looking for experienced and compassionate SEND Academic Tutors in Yeovil and the surrounding areas to provide personalised, one-to-one tuition for pupils accessing Alternative Provision or EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School). This is a face-to-face role, with tuition delivered in pupils' homes or suitable community settings such as libraries. This is not an online tutoring position. We are receiving regular referrals from Somerset Council for tuition commencing in September and are looking to build a team of dedicated tutors who can provide high-quality academic support while helping pupils rebuild their confidence, engagement and relationship with education. The Role As a SEND Academic Tutor, you will provide personalised tuition based around each pupil's individual needs, abilities and educational goals. Depending on the pupil, tuition may cover English, Maths, Science or other curriculum subjects, with tutors who have a particular subject specialism especially encouraged to apply. You may be supporting pupils who have a range of additional needs, including SEND and/or SEMH needs, and who require a more flexible and individualised approach to learning. The role may involve: Delivering engaging, one-to-one academic tuition to pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs. Planning and adapting lessons to suit individual learning needs, abilities and educational outcomes. Supporting pupils across subjects including English, Maths, Science and other curriculum areas. Helping pupils to develop their academic knowledge, skills and confidence. Delivering tuition within pupils' homes or appropriate community settings such as libraries. Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement with learning. Adapting teaching strategies to overcome barriers to learning and meet individual needs. Monitoring and recording pupil progress and maintaining accurate tuition records. Liaising with parents, carers, schools, local authority professionals and other agencies where appropriate. Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment. Supporting pupils to work towards their individual educational goals and reach their potential. Essential Requirements Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs. Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, teaching or educational support. Strong academic knowledge in one or more curriculum subjects. The ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning. A patient, adaptable and nurturing approach. Confidence working independently in pupils' homes and community settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. QTS is desirable but not essential. A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one. Satisfactory professional references.
