SEND Mentor
Nottinghamshire County
At Beyond Limits Learning & Wellbeing, we work with young people who need something different to thrive. Many of our learners have developmental delays, learning disabilities, communication differences, and may need support with personal care as part of their day.
We're looking for emotionally robust, calm, and efficient mentors who can meet them with dignity, kindness, and hope, while helping them find pathways towards independence, identity, and purpose.
Our Learners May Present With:
Developmental delay
Other learning disabilities
Autism, ADHD, and sensory needs
Trauma histories and emotional regulation challenges
Non-verbal communication or use of tools like Makaton
Personal-care needs on occasion
You Might Be a Great Fit If You Have Experience In:
Care support or adult social care
Nursing or student nursing
Special Educational Needs (SEN) support roles
Youth work, supported living, or residential care
Therapy or mental health support roles
This Role Centres On:
Deep respect for each young person’s dignity and individuality.
Helping them build real-world skills and confidence.
Confidence using approaches like PACE, trauma-informed practice, and co-regulation.
De-escalation skills, empathy, and reflective communication.
The ability to stay calm and present when a young person struggles, dysregulates, or shuts down.
Supporting personal care sensitively when needed.
If you have ever supported someone to wash, to self-feed, to communicate their needs, to calm after overwhelm, to take small steps and celebrate every one… you'll understand the heart of this role.
This SEND Mentor Role Is Not For People Who:
Only want academic delivery or a typical "tutoring" job.
See challenging behaviour as "defiance" instead of communication.
Struggle with personal-care tasks or shy away from complex needs.
Freeze when faced with emotional or sensory overwhelm.
We Provide the successful SEND Mentor with:
Training and ongoing support in therapeutic and trauma-informed practice.
A genuinely relational, values-driven team.
Venues and resources for community-based sessions.
Real autonomy (and real responsibility) to put the young person first.
Self-employed role. Competitive hourly rate. 1:1 therapeutic education support.
If your instinct is to help someone feel safe, valued, and capable first, and then gently stretch their world with them,we'd love to hear from you for this SEND Mentor role.
