We are currently seeking dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist school in the St Albans area supporting young people aged 5–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), alongside additional needs including ADHD and SEMH. The school provides highly personalised support designed to help every student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within a nurturing and structured environment.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.
You will support students with a range of needs including:
* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
* ADHD
* Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
* Communication and Interaction Needs
* Anxiety and Emotional Regulation Difficulties
* Additional Learning Needs and EHCPs
This role offers the opportunity to work within small class sizes where strong relationships, consistency, and personalised learning are at the heart of the school's approach.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
* Support students with emotional regulation and social development
* Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes
* Implement EHCP targets and behaviour support strategies
* Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement
* Support pupils both within the classroom and during enrichment activities
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families
Requirements
* Previous experience working with children or young people desirable
* Experience within SEN, care, youth work, support work, residential care, or education settings welcomed
* Understanding of ASC, ADHD, and SEMH needs desirable
* Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
