As a SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA), you will be a vital part of a team that helps students overcome barriers and thrive. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and families, you will help create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.
About the School: This is a welcoming and well-resourced specialist setting for secondary-aged pupils who follow a primary-style curriculum. The school supports students with a range of needs including Autism, ADHD, behavioural challenges, and learning difficulties. Class sizes are small, typically around 12 to 13 pupils, allowing for more tailored and supportive teaching.
It’s a bit like teaching primary children in secondary-sized bodies—full of energy, personality and potential.
What You’ll Be Doing as SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA)
Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND.
Adapt learning materials and activities to suit individual needs.
Collaborate with teaching staff and parents to ensure consistent support.
Encourage independence and confidence in students’ learning.
Monitor and report on student progress and well-being.
Foster a classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and included.
Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.
Support students’ emotional and behavioural needs with empathy and patience.
What You Bring as SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA)
Experience working with children with SEND in an educational setting.
A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.
Additional training in areas such as autism, speech and language, or behaviour management is desirable but not essential.
Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
