About the Role
Spencer Clarke Group is recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Liverpool. This is a full-time role for the remainder of the academic year, supporting a child in Year 2 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school is committed to inclusion and provides a nurturing environment where children are supported both academically and emotionally. As the dedicated 1:1 support for a child with SEMH needs, you will play a crucial role in helping them to feel safe, build positive relationships, and engage with learning.
Role and Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with SEMH needs.
Build trust, establish positive routines, and promote emotional wellbeing.
Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management approaches.
Support the child's social and communication development.
Encourage participation in classroom activities, adapting tasks where needed.
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external agencies to implement tailored strategies.
Provide feedback on progress and share updates with staff and parents.
Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
Requirements
Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs (essential).
Strong understanding of positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Experience working in a primary school setting (desirable but not essential).
Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (preferred but not required).
Enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain).

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be willing to attend a registration interview. All pay rates quoted include 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This is a temporary position, although in some cases permanent opportunities may become available.
