About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable SEND Tribunal Officer to join our team. This role mainly involves representing the local authority at SEND tribunal hearings, following receipt of detailed instructions from the allocated officer. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the local authority's position is effectively communicated and defended during tribunal processes. They will also support the team with complex tribunal appeals, including preparation of paperwork where relevant, advice and guidance and support for other Tribunal meetings.
What is the day-to-day of the role:
Attend and represent the local authority at SEND tribunal hearings, presenting evidence and arguments as instructed by the allocated officer.
Prepare and review all necessary documentation and evidence for tribunal cases, ensuring compliance with legal standards and deadlines.
Work closely with the allocated officer, legal teams, and other relevant stakeholders to gather information and develop case strategies.
Manage complex appeal cases and provide advice, guidance and support to operational SEND staff with appeal work where required.
Support officers with/attend TCMHs and JADRs where required.
Maintain clear and professional communication with families, schools, and other parties involved in the tribunal process.
Ensure accurate and detailed records of tribunal cases, including decisions, evidence submitted, and correspondence.
Stay updated on SEND legislation and best practices to ensure all tribunal processes are conducted lawfully and effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Significant experience of managing SEND Appeal cases, completing all relevant paperwork and collating evidence required to defend a case for the Local Authority.
Significant experience in representing the Local Authority at First-Tier Tribunal hearings.
Confident and knowledgeable in all areas of SEN Law, including Case Law.
