1:1 SEND Tutor - September 2026 Opportunities Location: Wokingham and surrounding areas Hours: Part-Time, Flexible Pay: Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience Start Date: Immediate opportunities available, with further roles from September 2026 Are you an experienced education professional passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND and SEMH needs? Do you enjoy working on a 1:1 basis and adapting your approach to help pupils overcome barriers to learning? Quantum Scholars are working closely with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham, supporting an increasing number of referrals for specialist 1:1 tuition and mentoring across Berkshire and the surrounding areas. We are looking for dedicated, patient and experienced SEND/SEMH Tutors to join our growing network and provide tailored educational and pastoral support to pupils who are currently unable to access mainstream education. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference, helping young people rebuild their confidence, re-engage with education and develop the skills they need to progress. About the Role As a 1:1 SEND/SEMH Tutor, you will provide personalised, face-to-face tuition and mentoring to primary and secondary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs. Sessions may be delivered in: The pupil's home Libraries or other community learning settings Suitable educational or alternative provision environmentsYour responsibilities will include: Planning and delivering engaging, individualised 1:1 sessions. Adapting lessons and activities to suit each pupil's needs, abilities and learning style. Supporting both academic development and social/emotional wellbeing. Developing positive, trusting relationships with pupils and their families. Encouraging confidence, resilience, independence and motivation. Using creative strategies to overcome barriers to learning. Supporting pupils to gradually re-engage with education. Monitoring progress and providing feedback following sessions where required. The Pupils You'll Support Our referrals can involve pupils with a variety of SEND and SEMH needs, including: SEND and additional learning needs SEMH Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) ADHD Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) Anxiety and emotional wellbeing needs Behavioural challenges Communication and interaction difficulties Moderate and complex learning difficultiesMany of the young people we work with have experienced difficulties within mainstream education. They therefore benefit from tutors who are understanding, consistent, patient and able to build strong relationships. Who We're Looking For We're keen to hear from professionals who have experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs and who are confident providing personalised 1:1 support. You will ideally have: Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND and/or SEMH. The ability to adapt your teaching and communication style. A good understanding of neurodiversity and additional needs. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. A calm, patient and empathetic approach. Experience supporting pupils who may be disengaged from education.
