Job Description

The service is looking for a case officer who can undertake level 3 and 4 case work in the local area directly with its service users. There is a need to understand the role of SENDIASS, have experience of working with parents carers and young people and experience of advocacy in a variety of SEND situations including SEND Tribunal processess and hearings. The service requires someone who has extensive knowledge of SEND and the relevant guidance and Acts to advice and support service users appropriately. The SENDIASS Officer must be experienced and knowledgeable in completing complex paperwork with parents carers and young people and a secure grasp of their advocacy role in complex case work. This post requires someone who is able to travel in and out of the area so support service users effectively. This post will be initially for 3 months but may be extended further.   Purpose of the Post To ensure the regular school support is appropriate to meet the needs of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disability (SEND), using assessments and home-school liaison in order to achieve positive outcomes whilst promoting the educational achievement, welfare and well-being of children and young people. Responsibilities • Develop positive working relationships with pupils, parents, school staff and other relevant agencies. • To undertake assessments of children, young people and their families in line with the relevant assessments and threshold criteria for completing statutory paperwork processes. • Utilise available resources and referring cases to other agencies as appropriate • Maintain an accurate and up to date electronic case recording system. • Provide appropriate advice, guidance and information to a range of internal and external stakeholders, including advising parents. • Utilise own skills to undertake preventative and remedial work with parents and pupils in the home and school setting and with the Local Authority to ensure SEND support is provided in line with the relevant regulations. • To facilitate meetings with parents in the home and school setting and with the LA, to mediate and seek to resolve disputes. • Ensure the welfare of children and young people is paramount and that parents, carers and young people are treated with respect and are at the heart of decision making processes that affect their lives. • Prepare documentation, witness statements, case preparation and provide representation and support in regard to actions brought before the Mediation company and SEND Tribunal court under relevant legislation. • Undertake the supervision of pupils SEND needs following, statutory paperwork processes, mediation agreements and tribunal orders. • Contribute to the assessment and placement of pupils in accordance with legislation regarding special educational need and/or disability as well as ensure the effective operation of the council’s policies and procedures concerning excluded pupils and pupil admissions. • Participate in the service’s supervision and case management arrangements. • Assist in the collection of relevant data and information. • Operate in accordance with relevant national legislation and procedures as well as the council’s policies, procedures and frameworks including safeguarding of children and young people, child employment, performance licencing, health and safety and data protection. • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as requested by management
