This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong drainage background who wants to work on a varied portfolio of development and infrastructure projects, with exposure to both drainage and highways design.
The role would suit someone who enjoys the technical side of civil engineering and wants to take ownership of projects while working closely with transport planners, engineers, developers and other built-environment professionals.
The Role You’ll be responsible for delivering civil engineering designs across a range of development-led projects, with drainage forming the main focus of the position.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the delivery of drainage design projects from concept through to detailed design
Preparing drainage strategies for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments
Designing surface water and foul drainage systems
Designing and incorporating SuDS, attenuation and storage solutions
Producing drainage calculations and hydraulic modelling
Developing highways and infrastructure designs alongside drainage
Preparing technical drawings and specifications
Liaising with clients, developers, local authorities and other stakeholders
Supporting planning and technical approval processes
Reviewing designs and providing technical guidance to junior engineers
Managing your own projects, workload and deadlines
Working collaboratively with the wider transport and infrastructure team
About You We’re looking for a Civil Engineer with solid consultancy experience and a strong technical understanding of drainage design.
You’ll ideally have:
A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Several years’ experience working within civil engineering consultancy
Strong experience in drainage design, particularly for development projects
Good understanding of SuDS, attenuation and drainage strategies
Experience with relevant drainage design/modelling software
Working knowledge of highways design and infrastructure
Strong understanding of UK drainage and highway standards
Excellent communication and technical skills
The ability to manage projects and work independently
Experience working towards or holding ICE/CIHT/CEng accreditation would be advantageous.
Why Join? You’ll be joining a forward-thinking consultancy operating across transport planning, highways and civil engineering, giving you the opportunity to work alongside specialists across multiple disciplines.
The business works on a broad range of development and infrastructure projects, providing engineers with exposure to technically interesting schemes and the opportunity to develop their career within a collaborative environment.
For someone with a drainage-first background who also enjoys highways and wants to take the next step in their career, this offers the chance to take genuine ownership of projects rather than simply working on one small part of the design process.
