Senior Design Engineer - HV Substations
Location: Ireland (Hybrid working)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: €80,000 - €90,000 (DOE)

Are you an experienced Senior Design Engineer ready to take on technically engaging projects in the high-voltage space?
Do you enjoy working across the full project lifecycle - from concept through to installation and commissioning - and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams?
Turner Lovell is recruiting for a well-established electrical contractor delivering large-scale renewable and transmission projects across Ireland. They are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join their growing team, working on MV/HV substations (38kV and above). This role would suit someone who thrives in a dynamic project-driven environment and is confident managing electrical design packages with a mix of primary and secondary responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Carry out design work to create detailed drawings for design including physical layouts and control/protection schematics
Create earthing and lightning protection layouts, cable routing plans, and general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD
Produce control and protection schematics, including CT/VT sizing, logic diagrams, trip tables, and signal lists
Generate detailed control and protection panel designs using EPLAN (or similar), supporting fabrication and installation teams
Perform protection coordination studies using software such as ETAP, and assist in relay setting/configuration
Specify and design LVAC and DC auxiliary systems in line with project requirementsIdeal Profile:
Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8) or equivalent experience
3-5 years' experience in MV/HV substation design
Familiarity with the Irish electrical grid standards and distribution codes
Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, EPLAN (or similar design tools)
Strong understanding of protection relays, LVAC/DC systems, and substation automation
