Job Description:
Senior Design Engineer
Dudley, West Midlands
Full-time | Mon–Fri | 40 hours per week | Flexitime + Early Friday finish
Salary: up to £47,000 + bonus
We are a leading UK manufacturer, recognised for our innovation and quality across plumbing, water management, and utilities. With a strong track record of bringing new products to market, we are continuing to design and engineer solutions that shape the industry.
We are now seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our in-house design team, working across new product development and engineering improvements for existing ranges.
It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a design team, where you will be working in a modern manufacturing facility with access to state of the art equipment. If you are looking for longevity and stability this will be the place for you - typically people retire here! There are also clear progression routes in place to ensure staff are retained.
The Role
As part of a collaborative design team, you’ll play a key role in turning ideas into real-world products. This position is roughly 75% new product development and 25% existing product modifications, giving you the chance to drive innovation while applying your problem-solving skills to current product lines.
Most projects involve plastic injection moulding, with some exposure to metal components. You’ll be designing products for use in plumbing and utilities, so experience with water flow, pressure systems, or fluid dynamics will be particularly valuable. In addition, the role involves working on both short and long-term manufacturing projects, so having experience in project management is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and contribute to the design and development of new products.
* Modify and improve existing products to meet performance, cost, or quality requirements.
* Produce and manage 3D CAD models, drawings, and supporting documentation.
* Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to bring designs through to production.
* Apply engineering analysis tools such as CFD and FEA to optimise designs.
* Stay up to date with innovations including IoT integration where relevant.
* Support and manage projects, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met.
About You
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar design engineering role.
* Strong 3D CAD skills and the ability to take projects from concept to production.
* Proven problem solver with an analytical approach.
* Experience in plastic injection moulding is highly advantageous.
* Additional experience in water flow, pressure systems, fluid dynamics, CFD, FEA or IoT would be a real plus.
* Exposure to project management is desirable, with the ability to manage both short and long-term projects effectively.
What’s on Offer
* Salary up to £47,000 + bonus
* 40-hour working week, flexitime with early Friday finish
* Opportunity to work on products that make a real difference in utilities and plumbing
* Join a well-established company with a reputation for innovation and quality
* Career development and progression within a diverse engineering group
