The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Designer to provide technical leadership and support to a team of multi-disciplined designers. This role ensures high-quality design outputs across the entire lifecycle—from concept through to in-service support. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in a design environment, a deep understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to lead teams effectively.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Develop and resolve complex design solutions across a variety of specialist scenarios.
Provide design governance and technical guidance across a team of designers.
Work with a high level of technical autonomy, typically at Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent.
Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, recognised standards (e.g., ISO), and company best practices.
Allocate design tasks and oversee drawing outputs, ensuring inter-disciplinary coordination.
Promote collaboration across design and functional teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Support and manage customer relationships, providing updates and resolving delivery or technical issues.
Advise on correct tools and methods; assist designers with technical challenges.
Lead and contribute to the preparation of design documentation to meet time, cost, and quality expectations.
Serve as point of contact for discipline-specific technical issues and contribute to formal design reviews.
Resolve technical and production queries related to manufacturing and installation.
Drive innovation and best practice in design methods, tools, and design lifecycle management.
Take responsibility as Design Lead for low-risk, multi-disciplinary projects when required.
Keep up to date with industry developments, tools, and standards; promote continuous learning and improvement within the team.
Contribute to business development efforts through technical support for tenders and proposals.You will have the following qualifications & experience:
Essential:
HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience in a detailed design environment.
Strong knowledge of CAD tools and general engineering drawing practices.
Incorporated Engineer status or working towards it.
Demonstrated ability to technically lead multi-disciplinary design teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interface with various stakeholders and disciplines.It’s great if you also have the following
Membership in a relevant professional engineering institute.
Broad experience across commercial or defence sectors.
