Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION - SENIOR ENGINEER Reports to: Associate and Directors. Key Role: To work as a Senior Engineer within structureHaus for each project and to direct the resources for that project to produce the highest standards of design and client service within predetermined cost and time constraints and to promote the development of client relationships. Required Qualifications and Skills: - IEng or CEng Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers - Knowledge of Eurocodes, Codes of Practice, Design Standards, Building Regulations and Health and Safety Legislation. - A good working knowledge of AutoCAD and other drawings packages and computer design software for structural analysis. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - To demonstrate ability to coordinate workflow. Key Tasks: Engineering / Project Management Responsibilities: - To plan and supervise the production of structural designs and drawings as required. - To prepare fee quotations for projects. - To assume the role of Senior Engineer for projects and to promote and maintain the highest standards of design consistent with the Client brief and programme: a. To manage your project team activities with assistance from the Engineers and other sH members. b. To have a detailed understanding of the Client’s brief, programme and cost parameters for all projects within the group. c. To have a detailed understanding of the nature and problems of all projects within sH. d. To initiate, arrange and manage on a day to day basis all project operations required for sH to fulfil the Client brief including initial design assessments, ground investigation, preliminary scheme drawings, final design, tender drawings and specifications, liaison with all other involved disciplines and advisors, internal programmes and progress, checking and quality procedures, site visits and meetings. e. To ensure that all work produced by sH is of the highest standard consistent with commercial awareness and the Client’s brief and cost parameters. f. To ensure that all work meets with the British Standards, Eurocodes and the Building Regulations and that all project documents are compatible and current. g. To ensure that all procedures, designs and specifications laid down in the Technical and Integrated Managements Systems documents are upheld. h. To ensure that all documentation including correspondence, reports, drawings and specifications are checked and corrected prior to issue and at key design tender and construction stages. i. To ensure that all documentation is issued in accordance with the Client’s programme. j. To monitor all incoming and outgoing correspondence under your control and to ensure this is properly dealt with. k. To ensure that a comprehensive design check is carried out at key stages in accordance with the Integrated Management System. l. To ensure that all documents issued by the groups are written in a good standard of English. m. To attend all relevant meetings and when appropriate ensure meetings are attended by suitable persons and that all relevant discussions are recorded in writing and filed. n. To ensure that visits to site are made for the purposes of attending meetings and inspecting the works in accordance with the Client’s brief and that accurate notes recording the visit are taken and filed. - To control cost and work programmes within sH to achieve targeted profitability: a. To discuss and agree with the Associate and/or Directors the resources required which meet the required programme and profitability. b. To produce drawing schedules and programmes of work to assist with the resource process. c. To regularly monitor the programme and advise the Director of any change in the resource requirements or target profitability. d. To monitor and record additional costs arising from alterations and amendments to the work supported by detailed records and where appropriate bring the same to the attention of the Associate and/or Directors.e. Where such alterations are of significance no further work shall be undertaken without the consent of the Associate and/or Directors. - To promote the development, efficiency and motivation of staff under your control: a. To maintain close contact with staff in your group to ensure you are aware of their technical abilities, capacity and performance and are able to report and make recommendations on the same to the Associate and/or Directors. b. To ensure that good time keeping is maintained within the group. c. To ensure that group members are aware of the objectives of all projects on which they are engaged. d. To encourage interest in projects by discussion and by enabling staff to make periodical visits to site. e. To take a pastoral interest in staff and ensure you refer any problems complaints they may have to the Associate and/or Directors. Technical Expertise / Personal Development: - To ensure you maintain personal standards by: 1. Regular reading of technical and Institutional journals. b. Maintaining a thorough knowledge of relevant British Standards and Building Regulations and other relevant technical standards. c. Fully understanding and becoming operational competent in the use of computers and authorised software. - To develop personal communication and management skills appropriate to your role. - To establish and maintain your Continuing Professional Development (CDP) plan of training in accordance with Institutional requirements, which will keep you abreast of technical advances and benefit you and the Company. Miscellaneous Responsibilities: - To promote structureHaus: a. To properly represent the Company at all times and to ensure that your behaviour, appearance and advice are in keeping with your position and are of the highest standard. b. To inform the Directors and/or Associate of any opportunities for sH of which you become aware. c. To inform the Directors and/or Associate at the earliest opportunity of any discussions or comments which may harm sH or give rise to complaint. d. To actively promote sH in a manner that is intended to secure further appointments and opportunities for the Company. - To comply with the ISO 9001 & 14001 Standards. - To carry out addition specific duties structureHaus may reasonably request in carrying out the role of Senior Engineer
