Senior Engineer – Highways Capital Projects
Location: Rochester, Kent, (Hybrid)
Salary: £31.35 Per hour (PAYE)
Job Type: Full-Time, 6-month contract

Are you a skilled Highways Engineer ready to step into a senior role with real impact?
We’re working with a well-established public sector organisation that’s delivering large-scale infrastructure improvements across the Medway region. They're looking to appoint a driven and experienced Senior Engineer to join their Capital Projects team and take the lead on the end-to-end delivery of complex highway improvement schemes.

From early-stage design through to contract administration and site supervision, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring works are completed on time, to budget, and the highest standard. Working alongside internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors, your leadership will help shape the transport network for the future.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing highway schemes per national standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, MCHW)
* Preparing works orders and bespoke NEC-based contracts
* Coordinating project timelines, budgets, and resources
* Supervising on-site construction and administering contracts, payments, and variations
* Managing stakeholder engagement and public communication
* Supporting junior engineers and contributing to team leadership
What we're looking for:
* Degree/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
* Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience in highways design and delivery
* Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and highway construction methodology
* Experience with NEC contracts and CDM regulations
* Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills
* Hybrid working flexibility, with at least 3 days in-office per week (ME2 location)
