Senior Engineer

Location: Balsall Common, Solihull
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join our HS2 team in the Midlands. To be considered, you will come from a construction or civil engineering background and have experience in the role of Senior Engineer, principally with groundworks, as well as some essential FRC experience.
Reporting to the Site Agent, the Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering on a project, ensuring works are constructed in accordance with contract drawings, specifications, procedures, and plans, whilst managing site and trainee engineers.
Key Accountabilities (to include but not limited to):
Experience/Knowledge:
* Previous experience as a Senior Engineer (or similar) for a civil engineering contractor.
* Experienced in groundworks – cut and fill, deep drainage (up to 6 m), and ducting, as well as a solid knowledge of reinforced concrete structures – underpasses, culverts, retaining walls, tanks, formwork, and falsework systems.
* Good knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works.
* Strong knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering/specifications for highway works.
* Commercially aware, with experience of working in a cost-conscious environment.
Skills:
* Good communication, people, and team management skills.
* Ability to speak up on HSEQ matters and lead by example.
* Use of online management systems such as Field View/Dalux (or similar) web and mobile BIM software.
* Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk, or SketchUp (desirable).
Qualifications:
* Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
* Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers or working towards membership (desirable).
* IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.
* Valid CSCS card.
* Full UK driving licence.
Health, Safety & Environment:
* Writing/checking RAMS and TBS, communicating them to the workforce, and monitoring compliance.
* Contribute to the achievement of Galldris’ safety targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices.
* Establish and implement site systems and controls consistent with Galldris company standards and project requirements, including health, safety, and quality systems, as well as project engineering standards.
* Check permits issued by the Principal Contractor and ensure they are received in a timely manner for works to proceed.
Programme & Progress:
* Review short-term lookahead programmes and report feedback from site.
* Report issues on site which may delay the programme or progress.
* Assist with preventing, identifying, and rectifying issues on site which may impact the programme.
Design & Design Assurance:
* Permanent Design: Familiarise yourself with design drawings, specifications, and setting-out requirements, and ensure accurate construction in accordance with requirements.
* Temporary Works Design: Liaise with the TWC to identify temporary works requirements, produce design briefs, and understand and communicate temporary works designs to the site team. Monitor installation to ensure compliance.
* MARs: Raise Material Approval Records and procure materials in line with the programme.
* TQs: Highlight issues and raise queries from reviewing drawings and specifications and from site inspections. Raise these with the relevant party, producing sketches where required.
Quality Management:
* ITPs: Write/check ITPs, communicate them to the workforce, and check that the process is being followed.
* QA Records: Keep organised and accurate QA records in accordance with ITPs and project requirements.
* NCRs & Defects: Lead on documenting, tracking, closing out, and sharing lessons learnt to avoid reoccurrence.
* Quality Handover Documentation: Collate information in accordance with ITPs and handover requirements.
* Quality Readiness Reviews: Lead on readiness reviews whilst capturing lessons learnt and identifying improvements.
