Our client is a leading Tier One main contractor with a strong track record in delivering high-quality residential developments across the UK. With a commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability, they are currently expanding their delivery teams and seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a background in civil engineering, particularly in highways and infrastructure, to support their growing portfolio of large-scale housing projects in Kent.
Role Overview
As Senior Engineer, you will be a key member of the project delivery team, responsible for the engineering leadership of roads, sewers, and infrastructure works within major residential developments. You will take ownership of site engineering duties, including setting out for infrastructure and plots, ensuring works are delivered to specification, and playing an integral role in managing external stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors.
You’ll be involved from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring that engineering works align with design, programme, budget, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Set out and oversee all civil and infrastructure works, including roads, drainage, utilities, and associated structures.
* Manage and coordinate the technical and engineering process across multiple residential sites, ensuring timely delivery of design and construction phases.
* Collaborate with design teams, local authorities, statutory bodies, and utility providers to resolve issues and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Take ownership of QA procedures, as-built records, site inspections, and technical queries.
* Work closely with site managers, subcontractors, and groundworks teams to ensure the accuracy of works and safe systems of work.
* Act as a key point of contact for engineering and technical matters during pre-construction, delivery, and close-out stages.
* Ensure accurate records, risk assessments, and method statements are in place.
* Mentor junior engineers and support their development within the site team.
Requirements
* Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a site-based engineering role on major residential or infrastructure schemes.
* Strong knowledge of highways design and construction, including S38/S278 works.
* Proficient in setting out and use of surveying instruments (Total Station, GPS).
* Solid understanding of drainage, utilities coordination, and earthworks.
* Experience liaising with local authorities, designers, and utility companies.
* Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Desirable
* Experience working with Tier One main contractors or high-volume housebuilders.
* Knowledge of BIM or digital engineering tools.
* SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certified.
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
