Guildmore’s Construction Business Unit in Bromley is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Estimator to join our growing team.This key role involves preparing accurate cost estimates to support competitive bids, ensuring projects are financially viable from tender stage through to contract award. The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to all aspects of the pre-construction and bidding process.
Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of tendering activities, including planning and coordination of all submission elements.
*
Review and acknowledge bid documents and amendments.
*
Support the Pre-Construction Manager in preparing bid/no-bid justifications.
*
Break down drawings and specifications into material and subcontractor packages.
*
Conduct risk analysis of information provided (or not provided) by the client.
*
Work collaboratively with the Commercial Manager, Head of Technical, and Head of Operations.
*
Prepare and complete the Form of Tender, covering letters, and contract sum analyses as required.
*
Provide recommendations at tender adjudication meetings.
*
Handover successful bids to the construction team, attending handover meetings and providing briefings.
Core Duties
*
Cost Estimation: Interpret drawings, specifications, and other documentation to calculate accurate project costs including prelims, materials, labour, equipment, and overheads.
*
Bid Preparation: Develop and submit comprehensive, competitive bids that reflect project scope and align with business objectives.
*
Cost Analysis: Compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring best value and accurate cost assumptions.
*
Quantity Take-offs: Prepare accurate measurements for materials and labour requirements.
*
Value Engineering: Recommend cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality or performance.
*
Risk Management: Identify commercial and programme risks; propose mitigation strategies.
*
Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to clarify project details and negotiate terms.
*
Documentation: Maintain organised records of estimates, bids, and tendering history.
Candidate Requirements
*
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in estimating with a Main Contractor in similar sectors.
*
Qualification in Construction (e.g. HNC, HND, Degree, or Higher Apprenticeship).
*
Demonstrable commercial awareness and knowledge of current market conditions.
*
Strong ability to produce and interpret Bills of Quantities (BOQs) accurately and efficiently.
*
Experience in:

Converting OJEU/PQQ projects into successful bids
*
Two-stage procurement processes and public sector frameworks
*
Highly numerate, analytical, and detail-oriented.
*
Confident, proactive, and solutions-focused approach.
*
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software (e.g. Conquest, Causeway, or similar).
*
Knowledge of UK building techniques and construction practices.
*
A reliable and self-motivated team player.
