Position: Senior Food Safety Officer (Environmental Health Practitioner)
Location: North East Lincolnshire area
Salary: £40,000 per annum (approximately £20.00 per hour).
Shift: Full-time flexible working required, with occasional evening work
Contract: Initial 8-month contract
Start Date: Immediate start available
About the Role
We are proud to be supporting our client, a highly regarded organisation delivering essential regulatory and environmental health services. They are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Food Safety Officer to join their team on an initial 8-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional with expertise in food safety, public health, and enforcement, ready to play a key role in protecting public health and supporting local businesses.
Key Responsibilities
* Enforce legislation relating to food safety, hygiene standards, communicable disease control, health and safety, public health, and port health functions.
* Conduct inspections of food manufacturing, storage, distribution, retail premises, and vessels to ensure legal compliance
* Undertake sampling, investigations, and enforcement actions, including formal notices, seizures, prohibitions, and prosecutions
* Respond to service requests, complaints, and public health incidents such as food poisoning outbreaks or notifiable diseases
* Prepare accurate reports, witness statements, legal notices, and evidence for potential court proceedings
* Collaborate with businesses to provide advice, guidance, and support for safe operations and legal compliance
* Maintain effective relationships with regulatory partners, including national agencies and other stakeholders
* Lead or coordinate multi-agency enforcement operations as required
* Carry out research to ensure knowledge remains current and best practices are followed
Key Requirements
* Qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHRB registered) or holder of the Higher Certificate in Food Control with substantial experience
* Proven track record of inspecting commercial food premises and enforcing food safety and public health legislation.
* Competency to act as an authorised officer under the Statutory Food Law Code of Practice and health and safety regulations
* Detailed knowledge of regulatory frameworks, statutory guidance, and enforcement procedures
* Experience handling complex investigations, including interviewing under PACE and gathering evidence for prosecution
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce technical reports and provide expert advice
* Strong organisational skills to manage a varied caseload and meet statutory deadlines
* Effective use of ICT, including data management systems
* Flexible, adaptable approach with the ability to work across multiple sites and occasional evening work
