Sue Ross Recruitment are working on behalf of our client, a highly respected public sector organisation, to recruit a Health, Safety & Risk Practitioner on a permanent basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking local authority team committed to delivering high-quality services to the community. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, implementing, and managing health, safety and risk management programmes, ensuring compliance with legislation and driving a culture of safety across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities for the Health, Safety & Risk Practitioner role:
* Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and employees on health, safety and risk policies and procedures.
* Deputise for the Strategic Health, Safety and Risk Manager in their absence.
* Undertake reviews of policy and corporate guidance to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice.
* Work collaboratively with stakeholders including service managers, HR and trade unions to create a positive safety culture.
* Investigate and analyse accidents and incidents, complete RIDDOR reporting and support the defence of liability or injury claims.
* Develop, manage and deliver health, safety and risk initiatives, projects and promotional campaigns.
* Act as system administrator for the Health & Safety system, ensuring data quality with HR colleagues.
* Lead the development and delivery of training programmes, including bespoke sessions.
* Produce high-quality reports, briefings, technical advice and presentations.
* Support emergency planning, business continuity and risk management arrangements across the Council.
* Where required, exercise authority to suspend or stop unsafe activities under Health & Safety legislation.
Candidate Requirements for the Health, Safety & Risk Practitioner role:
* Proven experience in health, safety and risk management within a complex organisation.
* Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
* Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Skilled in policy development, training delivery and project management.
* Highly organised with the ability to work independently and manage priorities.
* Commitment to ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
