Hours: Full-Time
Salary: £20.73 LTD - £16.65 PAYE.
Start Date: ASAP
Role Summary:
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Housing Officer to join a proactive Housing team serving the Totnes and Tavistock areas. This 6-month temporary role focuses on managing complex homelessness and housing needs cases while also supporting the development of the wider housing options team.
You will provide in-depth housing advice, make formal homelessness decisions on behalf of the Council, and represent the authority at multi-agency meetings. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act and strong casework skills to make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a senior caseworker for households approaching as homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Make decisions under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Handle complex cases and assess homelessness referrals from other local authorities.
Provide housing advice including advocacy, mediation, and referrals to specialist agencies.
Liaise with statutory services and attend safeguarding and child protection meetings.
Maintain accurate records, draft clear reports, and contribute to team development.
Promote digital access to services and ensure compliance with GDPR and safeguarding policies.Requirements:
Educated to A-level or equivalent experience in housing or homelessness casework.
Excellent working knowledge of homelessness legislation and tenancy law.
Experience working with complex and vulnerable client groups.
Ability to manage high-volume casework and make robust legal decisions.
IT-literate, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours work.
