Zenith are delighted to be working with our client who are an established, North East Manufacturer looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer on a permanent basis.

Role Purpose
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the development of internal products, engineering standards, and commissioning strategies that elevate the organisation’s capability in delivering high‑performance offshore cable systems. You’ll play a pivotal role in defining long‑term DIAC commissioning approaches, setting cable management requirements, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality engineering practices across global projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and execute test and termination procedures for inter‑array cable connections.
* Interpret topside layouts and connector systems from multiple suppliers, producing clear specifications and documentation to support procurement and supply chain activities.
* Collaborate closely with suppliers and internal offshore installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
* Conduct and specify electrical testing aligned with industry standards such as IEC 60229/60840/63026, ISO 13628, CIGRÉ 490/623/841, and IEEE 400.
* Perform or oversee IR, CR, AC VLF, TDR, partial discharge, Tan Delta, resonance, and DAC testing for system qualification and commissioning.
* Carry out or review system analyses including trainset studies, fault analysis, earthing, connector performance, and auxiliary equipment sizing (e.g., joints, junction boxes, enclosures, CMS, cleating, fire protection).
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Electrical Engineering Degree is essential
* 8+ years’ experience in offshore wind or related offshore electrical systems, with strong knowledge of connectors, terminations, and testing.
* Professional registration (PE, CEng, EUR ING or equivalent) preferred.
* Strong understanding of IEC, IEEE, ISO, and CIGRÉ standards.
* Offshore installation experience (offshore wind advantageous).
* Willingness to travel offshore and internationally.
* Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams across multiple geographies.
* Knowledge of XLPE/EPR‑insulated cables, subsea joints, offshore substations, and inter‑array cable connectors.
* Hands‑on testing experience is highly beneficial.
