Job Description of Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
To contribute to ongoing activities within the AirWing™ programme. The role spans concept development through to the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings and requires a broad, adaptable skill set suited to a fast-moving engineering environment.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will work where creativity meets precision, ensuring designs are elegant, robust, and production-ready.
Responsibilities of Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
* Lead the mechanical and structural design of AirWing™ subsystems from concept through to manufacturing release.
* Produce 3D models, detailed drawings, and supporting calculations, using sound analytical judgement and FEA where required.
* Oversee design validation, documentation, and integration with performance, systems, and manufacturing teams.
* Champion safe-by-design and design-for-manufacture principles, promoting continuous improvement and lifecycle sustainability.
* Mentor junior engineers, review their work, and communicate technical outcomes clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
* Uphold professional standards of engineering integrity, safety, and sustainability.
Experience / Knowledge of Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
Required:
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Structural, or Marine Engineering.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical or design engineering of complex systems.
* Proven ability to deliver designs from concept to production in marine or offshore environments.
* Experience with heavy machinery and steel structures.
* Strong design-for-manufacture skills and drawing creation.
* Experience working within a design and manufacturing environment.
Desirable Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
* Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D CAD software).
* Experience with class or certification requirements (e.g., DNV, LR).
* Understanding of control systems and actuation.
* Structural analysis skills.
* Experience designing large structures.
* Knowledge of structural testing, validation, and manufacturing techniques.
