Job Description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Permanent) - Tyne & Wear (Hybrid)

Tyne & Wear-based engineering organisation seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end mechanical design on electromechanical products - from clean-sheet concept through prototype build/test and into production.

Permanent | Salaried | Hybrid working | No visa sponsorship available

What you'll do

Own mechanical design for rotating equipment and drivetrain-style assemblies (plus associated components as needed)
Lead concept development, prototyping and validation
Deliver engineering analysis (hand calcs and CAE) and design for reliability/durability
Produce 3D CAD models and 2D drawings; support release to manufacture
Apply DFM/DFA and DFMEA/PFMEA
Work with manufacturing/test teams and manage suppliers
Mentor junior engineers

What you'll need

Strong 3D CAD + 2D drawing skills (any major CAD package)
Engineering analysis experience (e.g., CAE tools)
Practical experience designing for manufacture and supporting builds/testing
Supplier management exposure
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Desirable

Inventor/SolidWorks, MASTA/KISSsoft
High-volume manufacturing / casting design
Gears/transmissions/bearings or similar calculations
